P-53 Aircraft - The Potez 53 was a single-seat cantilever monoplane racer built by Potez specifically to compete in the 1933 Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe race, which it won outright.
It was powered by a supercharged 9-cylinder 488.2 cu in (8.0 L) Potez 9B air-cooled radial engine, driving two fixed-blade propellers. Jean is specially designed for competition, displacing up to 8 liters (490 cu in).

After this success, a new machine, designated Potez 533 (or 53-3), was produced with various improvements for the 1934 race, including the Ratier variable-pitch propeller; Increased fuselage and wing area, including an upgraded engine that produces a slimmer and smoother 350 hp (260 kW).
One of the two aircraft used over the years was modified as a Potez 532 (or 53-2) to serve as a reserve in competition. Both planes were piloted by the same pilots as the previous year, but did not complete the 1934 competition.
